Mary's Book Corner

Esiotrot, by Roald Dahl
Esiotrot, by Roald Dahl, is a whimsical tale about Mr. Hoppy, a jovial man with a passion for gardens and a secret love for his neighbor, Ms. Silver. This story is wrapped around Ms. Silver’s pet tortoise, Alfie. Alfie is a small turtle but Mr. Hoppy comes up with a plan to make him grow bigger by making up some silly words and using some silly magic. As Alfie grows so does Ms. Silver’s love for Mr. Hoppy.

This is one of my favorite books. It is perfect for the Imagine That! aged child, who loves to pretend and use silly words. In this book the author actually makes up his own language. This is also a great book for our toddlers who did the Creatures in My Backyard class this summer. Enjoy paraphrasing the story line and talking about the pictures. The 2 year old’s budding language will flourish as they listen to the sequence of the story and play with the silly words.
