Magic Muck

This is a unique and easy project--great for a dreary President's Day! This mysterious concoction turns from a liquid into a solid and back again--fun for kids of all ages (as long as they've passed the stage of putting everything in their mouth). Not only is Magic Muck fun, but it's a great introduction to science and has a wonderful sensory component.

You will need:
1/3 cup water
5-7 drops food coloring (optional)
3/4 cup cornstarch

1. Mix water and food coloring together in a small bowl.
2. Slowly add cornstarch to water and food coloring mixture. DO NOT STIR!
3. Let the mixture stand for 2-3 minutes.
4. Pick up a handful of Magic Muck and squeeze it until it forms a hard ball. Open your hand and the Magic Muck will turn from a solid ball back into a liquid.

You can experiment by adding different proportions of water and cornstarch or you could add a little glitter to make your Magic Muck sparkle. Enjoy!
